With many of us having spent a lot more time at home, we may have turned to find more creative ways of styling our purely natural hair in all its glory. Now, we’re on the roadmap out of lockdown in the UK, there are some styles that should stick around! Here, we have compiled a list of nine simple natural hairstyles to try or to continue to wear, even after lockdown:
There are endless headscarf styles you could experiment with this season. The beauty of this is that you could braid or twist your natural hair in jumbo size underneath and simply headwrap to your desired style. It is a quick and easy solution for a protective and stylish hairstyle. Any scarf big enough to fit around your head is a good enough tool to use for this style. Whether it’s an official headwrap or a scarf you usually use around your neck, either one is okay as long as it does the job!
If you’re not sure how to cornrow, flat twisting is an easy alternative. Once you’ve unravelled them, why not gather it up into one to create a twist out puff effect? You could style the front with a flat twist too.
Two Afro Puffs
This a classic cute style. Probably one of the easiest you’ll be able to do with natural hair. Simply part the middle of your hair and tie each side in two sections.
Another simple natural hairstyle is letting your fro glow by leaving it out in its angelic form. If you want to make it more of a well-rounded shape, afro picks were made for this. Be bold with your fro!
If you want to really see the length of your hair and the progress it has made, without straightening it, stretching your hair is a great way to do this. You can either use a blowdryer brush or as a heat-free alternative (which is usually a better option), try threading your hair. Either of these methods will allow you to see the true length of your hair.
French braids are also a classic natural hairstyle. Braiding in two jumbo-sizes at either side of your head is all that is required. To learn how to braid and achieve this style, check out the tutorial above.
Half Braid, Half Afro
You can also try the dynamic duo of having an afro puff and cornrows. This gives your face a clean look, whilst also showing off your glorious afro puff!
8. Bantu Knots
The traditional African style of Bantu knots has made a major stylish comeback in recent years. It’s a great protective hairstyle that protects your hair from its root to the ends. It also doesn’t have to be too tight on your scalp, allowing it to be low-manipulation and leave space for growth.
9. Headband Wigs
Headband wigs are a new trend gracing the natural hair community scene. They are a great option if you are new to styling your hair as it is one of many simple natural hairstyles.
Simply braid or even gather your natural hair in a bun underneath the wig, brush the front of your hair to gather underneath the wig. Then apply the headband wig like a hat and tighten it through the velcro straps attached with it at the back.
Simple yet very effective!
There are a variety of natural hair textures you can get when choosing your headband wig.
